I just really loved it.

Location is beautiful, unique building, and fantastic big garden down to the river, which is on a scenic bend at this site, quite a panorama left and right. Building is period as of description with its history, and is just uniquely delightful in person, like visiting an historical site , perfectly preserved in character interiorly, furniture etc and oil and watercolour paintings adorning the walls by well regarded relatives (in painting terms, and im sure others!)of the house make for immersive period experience, can't reccomend more. Solid well bred management with homely touch will take care of you like I was. Made a late booking at 1.30am and was offered collection from my location! Service with a smile , eager to make your stay as welcome as possible , and will act on it. Thanks again Mark. Edward.

Perfect. Mark is always welcoming and ready to help. His house is beautiful and the surroundings are very calm.

Marks place is just awesome! It would be quite a trek to town without a car, but we never had to worry about that because Mark always offered to take us into town and pick us up when he was able. He’s an extremely kind host and always goes above and beyond to make his guests happy and comfortable. The house is so beautiful and a little piece of history itself. The room we stayed in was spacious and there was even heating blankets to keep off the cold. The kitchen was cosy and had everything we could need - Mark even keeps a cupboard of food that’s free for the guests to use. Nosey, Charlie, and Willow (the doggies) are very well behaved and sweet. Overall I loved staying here and would gladly do so again!

Absolutely magnificent atmosphere, gorgeous scenery and a more than gracious host (Mark is an angel of a man) that really made the whole experience one that couldn’t be matched. The charming character of the property is evident in every corner, and became a welcome friend during our stay. Second to, of course, Mark’s wonderful dogs who gave us so many laughs everyday. We will miss Charlie, Nosy, and Willow making our days brighter!

The Old River House at Parteen

The Old River House at Parteen, County Clare is a private family house, with a number of annexes, either offering guests rooms in a home share or the option to book exclusive use of the entire house. Currently, the estate offers accomodation in the main house, known locally by its Old Irish / Viking name of Parteen-a-Lax, but is preparing the annex cottages and buildings for booking, starting in the Spring of 2025.

The grounds, comprising of eight acres of gardens, woodland and river bank are being reclaimed from nature after a 25 year lapse in management.

Mark was a great host, lovely location, great company, it is an old house, so it needs some work, but very enjoyable stay, the 2 dogs were the highlight for my daughter.
