This was a very memorable visit that I can't wait to repeat
This place is a real treasure that I stumbled on by accident. It is close to Limerick City but you'd never know it, the place is so serene and you can watch the swans on the River Shannon just yards away. We explored the grounds and took a memorable wade through the river to reach the ancient Castle of the Weir, which was a prominent fortification during the 1690 siege of Limerick. The place reeks of historical interest, the house is connected with the Young Ireland Leader - William Smith O'Brien and there are fascinating glimpses everywhere into his descendants' lives. The house is beautifully equipped although it needs a certain amount of refurbishment and possibly some fresh paint in places, but a very cosy large house. I can't wait to come again and spend more time with the wonderful team that keep the house so well.
